Diesel Fuel in gas motors?

back in the early 70's before we had catylitic converters we use to run diesel through carbs and even add it to our gas tanks for top end lubrication as it helped to keep carbon from valves, pistons etc. then with catylitic converters we were told the additives would mess up our converters so most of us quit. Now that we have bio diesel is it safe to add some diesel to our cars to keep the motors clean and to provide the extra power?
